UP bans import of sugar in the state

Uttar Pradesh ( UP ) one of the largest producer of sugar in India has issued orders banning import of raw sugar and its movement into the state . This is done to prevent neighbourhood state farmers to sell their product into the state .

This was done to mollify agitating farmers asking state government to increase the SAP - State administered price against the centres fair remunerative price .

UP State Govt has also announced SAP price of sugar cane to Rs 165/- and Rs 170/- a quintal which is higher than the central govts administered price of Rs 123/- and Rs 129/- for the two major grades of sugar cane .
