A report .
Burton’s Foods – better known for their brands, Jammie dodgers and wagon wheels - has announced the closure of its biscuit factory in Moreton.
“Today's announcements recognise the need to transform our supply chain,” said Burton’s Foods chief executive Ben Clarke. “And, while the proposed job losses are deeply regrettable, the new £25m investment we are making in our manufacturing capability elsewhere in the UK , will help deliver sustainable profitable growth for the company in a highly competitive and challenging market."
The company plans to invest £7m at Edinburgh and Llantarnam to develop its chocolate biscuit manufacturing capability and this forms part of a £25m three-year spending plan to build the company’s production capabilities, with the aim of keeping most of its manufacturing in the UK.
Burton's Foods, which makes branded and own-label biscuits and snacks, is the second largest biscuit supplier in the UK.
As well as Wagon Wheels and Jammie Dodgers, it also makes Cadbury's chocolate biscuits including the Crunchie, Turkish Delight and Caramel biscuit ranges.
