AFTER several years of planning, Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. finally opened its own bread manufacturing plant in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu last Jan. 5.
The Lapu-Lapu plant, which started its commercial operations last December, is now serving Bohol, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Iligan, Malaybalay and Davao City.source:
The P25-million facility is an expansion of Gardenia’s Laguna plant after its president and general manager Simplicio Umali Jr. decided to give in to persuasive requests and demands from Cebuanos and nearby provinces to bring Gardenia products closer.
Umali shares that it took them six months to find the perfect spot to put up their plant but it was all worth it.
Now that the Visayas and Mindanao production will come from Cebu, patrons will never miss its products again since the plant has a daily production capacity of 50,000 loaves.
“Unfortunately before, it takes a longer time to ship breads to Cebu and since we guarantee freshness in all our deliveries. We realized that the only way to serve both Visayas and Mindanao is to put up a plant in Cebu. Now, we are finally happy to be here. Cebuanos deserve breads which have all the attributes of good bread–good taste, freshness, freshly baked aroma, softness and nutritive value,” Umali said.
Gardenia has over 70 bread varieties but at the moment, only four varieties are available in Cebu: Gardenia Classic White Bread, High Fiber Wheat Bread, Chocolate Chip Bread and California Raisin.
The company assures local consumers though that they will be bringing in more varieties soon.
