Child Labour Rampant In Bakery Industry

Child  labour  which  is banned in India  is flourishing in bakery industry . Children under age of 14 - 15 years  are employed by contractors for small to medium  scale bakeries  to  run production . Most of these  manufacturing units  are either co - packers  of  large brands  or are independent bakeries .

Most dangerous aspect  of  child labour  bakeries  are the  working conditions in which these kids work , they perform heavy load jobs in stretch of 12 hours cycle  even they are subjected in human conditions of working at high temp oven s . Bakeries   have accident prone areas as well as heavy machineries which  could be fatal for these kids .

Kids are being  brought  to work by contractors or employer in pretext of giving jobs  from poor families  who are not aware  about the living conditions .

The arrangement between the contractors and  employers is such that  they pay half the salary what  they promise  and claim the double from their employers  or  the principals . Even as we have stringent law s  against  employing under age kids  still   these employers   refrain  or turn blind eyes to this malpractice .These kids are  being exploited  for greed  by  both contractors and employers .

Some of these even claim to be ISO certified  and  having  all necessary legal licenses . Its high time  that  these  units  being exposed  and reported  to authorities to stop exploitation  of minors in name of employment .
