Parle Brings " Americana " To Counter Britannia

Parle  products  is now  facing decline  in  glucose  sale,  impacting its bottom line  as popular  demand for  cream and cookies  biscuits have increased .
In addition  to  preferences  competition has  also dented into  Parle share of the market ,  Glucose  market  has also shrinked .

To counter  the decline in market   Parle has  re -branding   for  two of  its  regular varieites  such as  Cookies and Marie into   new look  with re branding   giving  new names to  Cookies - Americana  and  Marie - Bakesmith   .  Packaging has new look with  American and British  Flags  look alike  in background .  It would be  interesting to see whether  Americana  rules   Or   Britannia .

Parle  faces tough competition from  Britannia  and ITC   as domestic competitors  and  Kraft and United Biscuits  as MNC  competitors . Bakery segment is estimated to worth Rs 25,000  crore  . Biscuit category could be  of 75 -80 % of this  market  segment .




Bonn Enters Rusk Category

Bonn  a prominent  regional player  in North India  has  successfully launched  and aggressively  marketing Rusk or Toast  bread  which  is popular in semi urban and urban working class . Popular  method  of  devouring  of ruskis to dunk into milk or tea . Bonn,'s other products are bread , biscuits , cakes  .

Parle   has   now entered  lucrative  market of  rusk  ( toast ) which has been  dominated  by Britannia .  Uptill now Britannia   was only   branded  rusk  pan India  with  few local brands  competing  with it .  Rusk  is popular  among  working  class  as  it substitute  for  quick  breakfast which can be savored  with  tea  or milk .  Its also popular among  elderly people as  tea time snack and family get together .  Rusk manufacturing  has  been traditionally  manufactured with  local bakeries with  conventional method of bakery but for  these  big manufacturers entry   the rusk manufacturing  is now  done  with  automated   plant  with capacities  running as high as  10- 15 ton /unit / day .



Indian manufacturers have  innovated  rusk manufacturing by  integrating   bread manufacturing  with  biscuit manufacturing  technology for  mass production . Rotary racks  ovens has been replaced with  high  speed  tunnel ovens for  higher production .Local  brands  would  have tough  competition  with these two giants  making branded  rusks  hitherto dominated  by local bakeries

Biscuit Oven Wire Band Interlocking

 Biscuit  Wire band   preventive   maintenance  should include  inerlocking of   wire band with   band brush  movement   as  chances are there  that the operators  stops the  oven band   and let   the   brush run  resulting in severe  damage to oven band or in some cases it even   cuts the oven band through the cross section .

Hence  plant operators  should interlock the  both  such that  the   band brush  runs  only when the oven band  runs
